Title poem

SIT ON THE MAT

I have a little dog
whose brain is very small,
in fact he doesn’t have
a human brain at all.

But when I tell him sit,
He doesn’t walk about,
and when I tell him IN,
he doesn’t wander OUT.

I have a class of children
and this is true as true,
when I tell them DON’T,
they think that I’ve said DO.

I’ll tell you something else,
much, much worse than that,
they all jump up and down
when I say, SIT ON THE MAT!

RUTH

Ruth is one of those perfect girls, you know the sort,
good at everything, even sport;
quietly spoken, teacher’s pet,
popular too

It’s hard not to feel jealous
and I do
like her
but feel jealous too –

Want to pull her hair
or take away her chair
when she sits down to get all her sums right!

I wonder what she’s like at night,
does all the washing up, gives up TV ?

I wish a little bit of me was her
and a bigger bit of her was me.
